Day 44 – P90X Experiment

Well tomorrow is the HALF WAY POINT!  This has been a great experiment so far!  I guess it may have moved from experiment to LIFESTYLE change at some point.  I haven’t had time to write as much as I did in the beginning; lots of things have picked up in my life over the last few weeks, trips to Atlanta for work, SOX reports and audits, started teaching 2 bible classes again, just to name a few things.  So the writing has had to take a back seat.

Back to P90X and fitness in general…

Like I said tomorrow is the halfway point and man has it been great.  Though my weight loss has stalled out at around 201 (depending on day and time) and has not moved much in 3 weeks my size and overall appearance has changed.  Yesterday I had to go buy some new jeans as nothing else really fits right any more; and I bought size 34s – I have not had on a 34 since the summer of 1995 (and those that knew me then know that was the summer of per heck and stress for me it was, stress is not a good diet plan)

Well I am excited that the body transformation is really beginning and starting to show.  I still fell I have a long way to go to be ripped up like the folks you see on the infomercials but maybe by the time I work through round 2 of this (yes I am already planning to move on and re-do the program after I finish this cycle)

The workouts in the second phase are tough, and yes I silently (and some times not so silently) curse Tony Horton at the end of each crazy and intense hour.

Until the next time keep “Bringing It”

Day 31 – P90X Experiment

Well this has been the first week of phase 2 for my p90x workouts.  These workouts are a little more “intense” and seem to focus on building size and strength.  The muscle confusion has set in and the workouts now mix up the muscle groups.

Today was biceps and back and when the workout was finished the pump in my arms and back was very obvious.  After the workout I went for my jog and was able to get in about 6 miles (had more walk than jog in me tonight.)

Well I hope to get up writing this up more as phase 2 moves on.

Until next time “Bring it”

Day 26 – P90X Experiment (the recovery week)

Ok, I haven’t written much about my p90x this week.  Had way too much going on.  With the death of my long time pet and companion, to then having to business travel for 2 days, its been a long week and it’s not over yet!

I am still staying after it, I have stay on track all week except yesterday.  A 6 hour plus drive back home from Atlanta (wrecks, wrecks, something going on at the Dome, and more wrecks!) set me way back (course that mid-night showing of Transformers Tuesday night, didn’t help much either)  On the good note I did get about 4.5 miles of walking in during the conference- according to my pedometer –which has been spot on during all my other jogs and walks.  Of course like most business trips you never eat as good as you should!

So today I have tightened back up and really stuck to my diet and will get in all my exercise, and I am really looking forward to Sunday starting back on the muscle group workouts.

So until next time “Bring It”

Good Bye Old Friend

I just had to say good bye to old friend, my buddy, Johnny Reb – my black lab of the past 15 years.  That ole black lab had been through a lot with me over the years.  He probably has see both the worst and the best sides of what I am and what I was.  Reb was a given to me in December of 1994, he was just a few weeks old.  His mama had been killed by a car while carrying the litter, he was the only pup to survive.  He was nursed and cared for by a Rottweiler who had just had a litter, for some reason she took to him even over her own pups.  I had actually gone to get one of her pups when this fuzzy, chunky, little black pooch kept following me around grabing at my pants leg.  So I guess he chose me and not the other way around.  He won my heart and back to The Plains he when with me.  We almost called him Bear (though that would be fun name for a dog living in Auburn), but on the way home he laid claim to his own name.  We were listing to a re-recording of some old country, and Johnny Horton’s tune “Johnny Reb” came on, and the little guy went to howling (at the time I though he might have liked it but now I realize it was probably the opposite) so thus was his name.  That howl became his signature, as he got older when sirens would pass he would strike a pose and mimic them (often longer than any neighbor would like).  Head held high and lips puckered out (like he was trying to whistle).

Johnny Reb was my buddy, he stuck with me though the thick and thin of it all.  He was my friend when I was alone, and he was my helper in making new friends too.  He was a big flirt and would often pull loose on walks to chase down some girl that was out walking or jogging (of course I realize now he was just trying to help me out).

There are thousands of Reb stories.  Most involve him escaping from different pens, runs, fences, etc…  Like while I was in college he would let him self out and wonder all over Auburn, then be waiting on my front porch when I would get home from class (funny how he knew when I would be home).  After we move back to Gadsden, he would get loose and go beg at Wendy’s (more than once did some one bring him home).  Then after we finally took him to stay at my parents’ (they have lots of room and natural springs to play in), he would still get loose and run all over Attalla, even pestering and teasing the dog catcher.

Johnny Reb thanks for all the great memories, the laughs, and the companionship.

Day 22 – The P90X Experiment

Well I have made it through 3 weeks of this stuff, and really fell like I can see results!  This week is the “1st Recovery” and end of phase 1.  I still plan to keep up my walking and running.  I had set a mini goal of weight to be 199 by today (Father’s Day), but alas I fell short by 3.5 pounds.  On and up side, I was able to where a pair of pants that have have had for several years (a pricy pair of Ralph Lauren slacks, that I picked up on clearance for dirt cheep, when I was dieting a few years ago with hopes of “wearing them with in a few months" back then).  So even though I have not met my weight goals, P90x is doing its job and reshaping me!  I guess I am still sort of old school and weight still matters to me.

I hope all you Dad’s out there have a great day!

I will try and post a photo or 2 in the next week.

Day 20 – P90X Experiment

Well today was kempox again, a kickboxing style cardio work out.  This is just a fun hour of moving around and acting like your training for some big fight.  After the kempo, I took a rest and then decided to hit the streets for a while, had a rack of Dreamland ribs in my system that needed to be burned off!

Was able to get in about 6.5 miles in just around and hour today.  In this humidity that was pretty good, but man was I drenched when i finally made it back to the house.
